SUMMARY:
Aim: The impact of a struggling parent on a child in the absence of support can be traumatic. Vincent Felitti's research on Adverse Childhood Experiences (Felitti, Anda and Block, 2003, p. 15) spanning three generations, found an increased risk of physical and mental health problems in families where: 1) attachment, commitment, and closeness were impaired; 2) organizational stability was lacking; 3) a family member was temporarily deprived of liberty; 4) the family was plagued by long-term conflict; 5) family members experienced violence, addiction, and mental disorders; and 6) the parents exhibited signs of parental immaturity. The list of risks threatening the well-being of children includes the experience of a reversed relationship (parentification), i.e. the child taking on tasks that belong to adults.
Methods: The study used the method of analysis and synthesis of professional literatureResults: Parentification appears to be a difficult experience, perceived by children as a childhood trauma.Conclusion: The article concludes with a discussion of support options for parentified children and their families, both in the context of individual work and social interventions. Diagnostic criteria for assessing the degree of dysfunction in a child's relationship with a parent are presented. Originality: The article highlights the need for preventive measures for parentified children and suggests specific actions in this area. Additionally, it highlights the need for further research on parentification, focused on prevention and support for families at risk.Keyword: reversed relationship, role reversal, parentification, family, traumatic experience
STRESZCZENIE:
Cel: Wpływ rodzica zmagającego się z problemami na dziecko w sytuacji braku wsparcia, może być traumatyczny. Badania Vincenta Felittiego nad negatywnymi doświadczeniami z okresu dzieciństwa Adverse Childhood Experience (Felitti, Anda and Block, 2003, p. 15) obejmujące osoby z trzech pokoleń, wykazały zwiększone ryzyko wystąpienia problemów ze zdrowiem fizycznym i psychicznym w rodzinach w których: 1) zaburzone zostało poczucie przywiązania, zaangażowania i bliskości; 2) brakuje stabilności organizacyjnej; 3) członek rodziny był czasowo pozbawiony wolności; 4) w rodzinie występowały długotrwałe konflikty; 5) członkowie rodziny doświadczyli przemocy, uzależnienia, zaburzeń psychicznych; 6) rodzice wykazywali cechy niedojrzałości rodzicielskiej. Do listy tych ryzyk zagrażających dobrostanowi dzieci możemy zaliczyć doświadczenie odwróconej relacji (parentyfikacji), czyli podejmowania przez dziecko zadań przynależnych osobom dorosłym.
Metody: W opracowaniu wykorzystano metodę analizy i syntezy literatury fachowej.
Wyniki: Parentyfikacja jawi się jako doświadczenie trudne, postrzegane przez dzieci jako trauma okresu dzieciństwa.
Zakończenie: Artykuł kończą rozważania na temat form pomocy dzieciom parentyfikowanym i ich rodzinom, tak w kontekście pracy indywidualnej, jak i oddziaływań społecznych.
Oryginalność: Artykuł podkreśla konieczność działań prewencyjnych na rzecz dzieci parentyfikowanych oraz wskazuje konkretne działania w tym obszarze. Dodatkowo zwrócono uwagę na potrzebę konieczność prowadzenia dalszych badań nad parentyfikacją, ukierunkowanych na prewencję oraz wsparcie rodzin z grup ryzyka.
